How To Measure for Window Film
Figuring out how much window film you need is much easier than you think. First, you need to know the sizes of your windows. Next, review the sizes of window film available in the pattern or style you like. Finally, order the quantity needed. These simple steps on how to measure for window film will bring you one step closer to adding privacy and style to your home.
Measure Your Glass
The first step to know how much window film you need is to measure the area you want to install the film. Only measure the glass area, not the window frame. Repeat this for each window. Make sure you write these measurements down.
You will want to add 1 inch in each direction to your measurements. This will allow room for error and cutting during installation. This overlap allows you to cut the film to the edge of your glass, so it custom fits your window.
Once you have measured the glass for all your windows, add together the lengths to determine how much window film you will need for your entire project.
Tips on How to Measure for Window Film
- First measure your glass from left to right. This will be the width you need.
- Next measure your glass from top to bottom. This will be the length you need.
- Think outside the box. Most patterns can be turned to better fit your window. So if you have 3 windows, each 22″ wide by 35″ long, you can purchase 6 feet of 36″ wide film. Then simply rotate the film to fit your windows. This will give you a piece of film that is 24″ wide by 36″ long for each window.
